Flora Fauna of Indonesia 2005



To commemorate The National Flora and Fauna Day, Indonesian Post issued the flora fauna stamp series which depicted Mammals i.e: Finless Propoise , Dugong, and sea plant i.e: Red algae (Gelidium latifolum) , Linnaneus (Halimed opuntia). The stamp series are in same denomination and as addition to the issuance , mini sheet has been issued that consist of 2 value stamps.


Dugong, known local name as Duyung, are marine mammals which can grow above in 3 m length. Some time called as sea cow. Dugong are more closely related to elephants than marine mammals.It habit shallow, tropical waters throughout the IndoPacific region.


Finless Porpois, local name known as Black purpois or Limbur.They live in the coastal waters and all major rivers of the Indian and Western Pacific Oceans in shallow and warm waters.
This porpoise is easy identify , its lack of a dorsal fin, small body size and distinctive colour.Their feed are little fish, octopus, shrimp and prawn.



Gelidium latifolium, or Red algae, is plants that grow in subtrat coral reef and have value potency export to Japan due to to have rate of Agarose, vitamin B12., etc.


Halimeda opuntia, or Linnaneus, is plants that grow in subtrat coral reef and have value potency export to Japan due to to have rate of Agarose, vitamin B12., etc.
